How Do Your Peers View Transitioning to the GHS?
By: Kim Stier, President
July, 2007

For this edition of the GHS News-Brief I'd like to spend some time updating you on your peers in the industry and their take on the transition challenges associated with the GHS. SiteHawk took a GHS Survey at both of the recent national trade shows, the AIHce in Philadelphia and the ASSE in Orlando. We were very pleased by the response and were able to tabulate some interesting results, which I have shared with you below.

Nearly 20% of those surveyed were already looking for software vendors who, like SiteHawk, can assist with this GHS transition process, while 24% are planning to evaluate software soon for a projected implementation in 2008.

One of the key questions of the survey was related to the perceived hurdles associated with such a major regulatory change as will result from the adoption of the GHS. Respondents selected the topics that they believed would pose the greatest transition challenge. We have tabulated their responses based on frequency of selection.

  • Labeling – 39%
  • MSDS classification and re-authoing – 37%
  • Training – 34%
  • Transition cost – 29%
  • Time allowed for full implementation – 27%
  • MSDS distribution – 22%

In summary, while industry recognizes the need and the inevitability of this change, there will be resource hurdles to overcome. Contact SiteHawk with questions related to the GHS or for more information about how SiteHawk can assist in your transition plan: ghs@sitehawk.com or 1-877-483-4295.
